RICARDO E ZULUETA

Speculative Cyberscapes v. 3, is a site-specific installation comprised of an experimental video within a neon green screen expanded cinematic environment.  The accompanying sculptural neon green seating and surround sound extends the video’s realm beyond the screen creating an immersive interactive experience for viewers. The work envisions queer ecological futurity as a framework for hope in anticipation of impending environmental degradation.  The chromatic installation features computer-generated animations that project speculative visions of the future filtered through the aesthetics of digitality where new landscapes and species emerge in the wake of human-induced climate change.  Lifeforms whose building blocks are RGB hues and raw computer textures surface from rising seas, melting ice caps, and wildfires depicted in the immersive expanded cinematic work. This enveloping experience juxtaposes a potential utopian future against humanity's exponential impact on Earth's ecosystems during the Anthropocene, challenging us to reimagine our relationship with the natural world.

QUEER ALGORITHMIC MEMORIES

Strategem for dismantling accelerated financial capitalism lies in the queer community that disidentifies on and against existing systems and platforms. These denizens are not facile to oppress through stringent binary categorization. By demanding historical revision, the community deconstructs existing systems of compartmentalization that capitalize on their labor and consumption. Part of their mission is manifested in launching social campaigns against historical erasure in order to assert their socio-cultural significance.

I AM NOT YOUR ROBOT

The technological head processes a bombardment of media images and then expels them via clips and soundbites relayed at a vertiginous pace. The cyborg head sees and hears all and has the infinite capacity to capture, encode, and program responses to everything, at all times, in all places. It is omnipresent.

RISING GLITCH LEVELS

The juxtaposition of the lush natural environment with symbols of the effects of the Information Age serves to highlight the entropic disruption that exists around us. From encroaching gentrification to the protected mangroves and shoreline, the sounds of industry, data, and nature clash in a cacophonic soundtrack.

WE ARE EVERYWHERE!

This mash up of historical queer interventions defies historical linearity and binary representation. It serves as a testament to the significant impact of social activism in providing spaces for non conformity and self expression.
